Shakespeare In Schools

"As a parent, watching 5th graders perform and understand Shakespeare was an experience I didn't think possible. I don't know who was more impressed, me or my son."

" The children were incredible and watching the parents' response was even more fun."

"We didn't understand it, but they sure did. Never dreamed my daughter could do that."

This program is designed to give students a greater appreciation and working knowledge of the language of Shakespeare. The work consists of a thorough study of the sounds, vibrations, rhythm and structure of the words themselves, coupled with a greater comprehension of the exact meaning of the text. The final step in this program focuses on the clarity and specificity of storytelling through preparation for performance. The benefits of this program have been tested and proven within school systems throughout the country and we are excited to introduce it into Madison County.

Results show an appreciation of the collaborative process through mounting a production as members of a team, a greater sense of confidence and presentation skills through performance and an active and fun approach to learning the classics.

The most important finding and the one First Stage is targeting is an increase in student vocabulary and an improvement in reading skills.
